Shumi Restaurant Case Study

Client Summary

Shumi is a restaurant that serves authentic Japanese cuisine, including sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese staples. Their first location is in Ridgewood, New Jersey, which has won several awards. Looking to expand, Shumi recently established a brand-new restaurant in Dallas, Texas.

Shumi’s Goal

With a second branch opening in Texas, Shumi asked SJ Design to help promote the new location. SJ Design’s job was to advertise Shumi through social media and print mediums to ensure Shumi receives ongoing business and success.


Display & Interior Design

SJ Design helped design core elements of Shumi’s new restaurant, from the décor to the menus. The beautiful, traditional art on the private room’s wall and the sushi bar’s wall video were the results of searching for a cost-effective interior design. It now has become the focal point of the restaurant and occasionally people stand outside the restaurant’s window just to watch the video play.

SJ Design took professional photos and videos of the new restaurant and its different elements. This includes photos of delicious sushi and other entrees, the restaurant’s Japanese décor, and the Shumi workers that bring everything together. Social Media Promotion Video Creation

Finally, to help promote Shumi, SJ Design created an Instagram and Facebook page for the Dallas location. The SJ team regularly posts the photos and videos mentioned above and also shares updates about the restaurant. To further help with promotion, SJ Design designed a website for Shumi and sent advertisements about the new location to local magazines and newspapers.

The Outcome

During Shumi’s soft opening, there were so many customers, they ran out of fish for the sushi. This was possible thanks to SJ Design’s advertisement work, which helped drum up customers. In fact, approximately 50% of the customers that attend the restaurant are coming because they saw Shumi promoted on social media. The SNS pages have also been steadily growing. In a short amount of time, the Instagram account received over 500 local followers within the first 6 months. Additionally, the Instagram and Facebook page has received rave reviews from customers about Shumi’s food.
